F. Scott Fitzgerald (1896-1940) war einer der größten amerikanischen Schriftsteller des 20. Jahrhunderts. Jahrhunderts. Am bekanntesten ist er für seinen Roman Der große Gatsby, in dem er die Exzesse und die Desillusionierung des Jazz-Zeitalters einfing. Seine brillante Prosa, sein scharfer sozialer Kommentar und seine Erforschung des amerikanischen Traums haben ihn zu einem der wichtigsten Vertreter der amerikanischen Literatur gemacht. Neben dem Großen Gatsby gehören zu seinen bekanntesten Werken Zärtlich ist die Nacht und Diesseits des Paradieses.
