Academic Effects of Writer''s Workshop focuses on a
process approach to teaching writing in the
classroom. The investigation centers on the
effects of a particular process writing curriculum,
Writer s Workshop, on the writing achievement of
fifth grade students as measured by an annual
standardized assessment tool. The research includes
three years of quantitative data with a total of over
300 subjects. Background information provides readers
with a history of the development of writing
instruction in schools, a comparison of traditional
and process writing instruction, and a description of
the major components and essential elements of
Writer''s Workshop. Interviews and a lengthy
discussion of the findings suggest many positive
implications from the study as well as continued used
of the Writer''s Workshop curriculum with
modifications.
