The paradox of the scientific career of a highly qualified pediatric surgeon is that the most impressive results were achieved in the non-surgical section of medicine. Working at the Siberian children's surgical clinic was associated with the responsibility for treating children with the most aggressive forms of acute pneumonia at an early stage of the disease. The high concentration of such patients (up to 10 or more at the same time), the rapid development of purulent complications and high mortality (up to 10% or more) caused the search for solutions to this problem.Looking at the problem from the perspective of classical and fundamental materials of medical science allowed the author to create an original concept of the pathogenesis of acute pneumonia and confirm it with clinical results, as well as to declare the possibility of guaranteed prevention of purulent complications.Time has shown that the results obtained by the author, against the background of the continuing deepening of the problem, remain relevant and can help in solving it today.
