Del Hayes is a retired electrical engineer, and was involved in programs such as the Nike Zeus anti-missile missile, and airport surveillance radars used at major airports. He was responsible for flight-test certification for Instrument Flight Rules of the first Loran unit for general aviation. He and his son owned and operated custom audio sales and installation businesses, and he is now a consulting engineer for the custom audio/video installation industry. Del is a forty-plus year private pilot, has flown twenty-four types of aircraft and flown in all states except Hawaii. He also is owner of Del Hayes Press, publishing both his own books and selected books for other authors. He is the author of two novels and two non-fiction books, as well as several technical articles. He and his late wife, Colleen, were married fifty-five years, and lived most of those years near Dallas, Texas, where they were active in their Presbyterian church. They had three children and ten grandchildren. Mr. Hayes now lives with his daughter and four grandchildren in Saint Albans, Maine.
