Er war außerdem Darsteller in der MTV Spielshow Remote Control, in der er unter anderem als Trivia Delinquent oder Stud Boy auftrat. Nachdem er einmal spontan die Bühne in einem Club in Boston betreten hatte, begann Sandler regelmäßig in Comedy-Clubs aufzutreten. Während eines Auftritts in Los Angeles wurde er von dem Comedian Dennis Miller entdeckt. Miller empfahl ihn daraufhin dem Produzenten von Saturday-Night-Live Lorne Michaels.
