This book describes our work in adapting CBT for depression in Pakistan. The methodology was later replicated in the UK to adapt CBT for psychosis for ethnic minority patients. This was a mixed methods Study. The project consisted of two phases. In the first phase a series of studies were carried out, including interviews with psychologists, patients and group discussions with university students about their views regarding concepts underlying therapy. In the second phase adapted manual was tested in a small pilot project using a Randomised Controlled Trial (RCT) design.

Farooq Naeem is a Consultant Psychiatrist and Cognitive Behaviour Therapist. His areas in research include Trans-cultural psychiatry, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Genetics of mental disorders. During the last 5 years he has developed a model of adaptation of CBT into non western cultures. CBT for depression and psychosis was adapted in Pakistan.
