Adiponectin is an adipokine and has been implicated in both the physiological adaptation to normal pregnancy and obstetrical complications. The knowledge on adiponectin and subsequent health teaching related to this hormone on obstetric care for mother is crucial. However, no study was found in Malaysia and elsewhere that assessed nurses' knowledge on adiponectin and obesity in early pregnancy. The aim of this study was to determine the knowledge and confidence level among nurses, particularly those that provide direct care to mothers in the Maternity Units. Ninety-one nurses from the Maternity Units independently response the survey related to adiponectin issues in early pregnancy. Study shows that low knowledge level in adiponectin exist among these nurses. Hence, this may restrain their confidence level in providing care to mother. The findings highlight a call for review of the current nursing and midwifery curriculum, particularly in theoretical understanding of adiponectin;including warrants a need for continuous nurse education for current nurses.
