Using the Farmer Field School approach, farmers were trained in key agronomic practices like spacing, method of planting, fertilizer and pesticide use by FAO since 2009 to 2011. Despite all these interventions, there is low adoption of NERICA in Ogur and Agweng Sub Counties in Lira District, Uganda. Personal interactions with FAO official, Production Coordinator and District Agricultural Officer Lira, revealed that there was no empirical work so far carried out to ascertain the possible relationship between farmers' characteristics and adoption of NERICA in Ogur and Agweng Sub Counties. The author therefore sought to carry out a study to ascertain the possible relationship between farmers' characteristics (socio-demographic and socio-economic factors) and adoption of NERICA in Ogur and Agweng Sub Counties in order to address the problems of food insecurity and low incomes by the farmers through implementation of the recommendations made. It is therefore, the author's wish that the target clientele governments (Ministries of Agriculture) and other development partners-NGOs, Researchers, private sector, farmers' organizations (farmers and anyone else) will find this work useful.
