Autorenporträt
Antonio Pires was born in Ibiá in Minas Gerais. At 14 he moved to Belo Horizonte. He graduated in Physics at the Federal University of Minas Gerais in 1970. In 1972 completed his masters, working on calculations of energy bands in Neon and Argon. In 1976 he obtained his doctoral degree at the University of California at Santa Barbara, United States. He returned to Brazil where he stayed since then as professor at the Federal University of Minas Gerais. Several employees in Brazil and abroad, has published 130 scientific papers in journals. Performs activities in research, teaching, administration and advice. Pires was Associate Editor of the Brazilian Journal of Physics, January 1996 to December 1997. He is a member of the committee for the CAPES evaluation of graduate courses in physics. Currently dedicated to the study of the application of techniques of quantum field theory in low dimensional magnetic systems.
