Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) are a significant public health problem affecting approximately 5% to 12% of the population. TMD is the second most common musculoskeletal condition resulting in pain and disability. Pain-related TMD can impact the individual's daily activities, psychosocial functioning, and quality of life.Current concepts and recommended treatment for TMDs and TMJ pain & Dysfunction have evolved over time.Oral physicians believe in and recognize that TMDs have a physical or physiological basis with malocclusion as a major etiologic agent. In the past few decades, Computerized biometric measurement devices have been developed to record and analyze with high degrees of precision such as Digital analysis of occlusion (T-scan), Masticatory muscle function (EMG), Mandibular movements (JT), TMJ joint sounds (JVA), Thermography and Ultrasonography.
