Root canal sealers along with solid core material plays a major role in achieving the three dimensional sealing of the root canal system. The sealer has a primary role in sealing the canal by obliterating the irregularities between the canal wall and the core material, sealing off the voids, patent accessory canals, and multiple foramina. The evolution of sealers from the conventional ZOE to the contemporary ones like epoxy based resin, and to the most recent MTA sealer and bioceramic sealer have opened a new dimension on how apart from creating hermetic seal, a sealer can also have the propensity toward mineralization through the formation of hydroxyapatite crystals.
