Examines the latest advances in solid oxide fuel cell technology The Ninth International Symposium on Solid Oxide Fuel Cells: Materials, Science, and Technology was held in January 2012 as part of the 36th International Conference on Advanced Ceramics and Composites (ICACC). This symposium provided an international forum for scientists, engineers, and technologists from around the world to present and discuss the latest advances in solid oxide fuel cells. Moreover, the symposium gave attendees the opportunity to explore new ideas emerging from industry, academia, and government to enhance the performance of solid oxide fuel cells. This issue features 14 papers selected from among the 57 oral and poster presentations at the symposium, offering readers a broad panorama of the current status of solid oxide fuel cells technology as well as emerging issues and future directions in the field, including: * Freeze-tape casting for the design of anode-delivery layer in solid oxide fuel cells * Development of GDC-(LiNa)CO3 nano-composite electrolytes for low-temperature solid oxide fuel cells * In-situ XRD of operating LSFC cathodes: development of a new analytical capability * Silver-palladium alloy electrodes for low-temperature solid oxide electrolysis cells * Efficient planar SOFC technology for a portable power generator This issue represents one of nine CESP issues published from the 36th ICACC meeting. ICACC is the world's most prominent international meeting dedicated to advanced structural, functional, and nanoscopic ceramics, composites, and other emerging ceramic materials and technologies. ICACC has been organized each year by The American Ceramic Society and The American Ceramic Society's Engineering Ceramics Division since 1977.
