Introduction of Indian Feminist theatre marks the juncture of nationalism, concurrent movements of IPTA, Street theatre and Regional theatres. A deep structure sociological survey documents that women question in India is a nugatory agenda which is in a desperate need of theatrical platform to ventilate women related problems. This book intends to focus on the Indian women dramatists namely Manjula Padmanabhan, Dina Mehta and Poile Sengupta.Chief aim behind this project is to analyze the plays from socio-theatrical aspects by applying critical theories and find out the multi-layered meanings and tangible academic definition of Feminist Theatre in Indian context. Pregnant with discursive issues on contemporary women centric predicaments, the discussed plays of these dramatists attempt to define and design the Indian Feminist Theatre in indigenous style. Each of these dramatists has opened up a new and distinctive approach not only to the dramatic/ theatrical universe, but also seeks attention of the feminist thinkers for solidarity. The present book tries to provide the most detailed account those plays which aim to outline the aesthetics of Indian Feminist theatre.
