African women have always suffered a second class status in the home and in the Church. The marginalization that women faced in Judaism has also crept into Christianity. It is however complicating when the New Testament gives evidence of of texts that describe women as active participants in ministry and the same time advocate the silence of women in ministry. In the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), certain positions women aspire for are not given to them. Therefore, this book aims at examining the intention of the writer of 1 Corinthians 14:26-40 which is one of the texts used in subordinating women in the Church. This book also evaluates the implications of the text to African women in ministry in the context of the Nigerian experience, especially women in the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion). The Church will be losing a vital factor and force in Church spirituality and organizational structure without active and full involvement of women.
