This study offers an extensive exploration of becoming a Director of Learning based on reflective analysis of that which is involved when charged with the responsibility of bringing about change and creating a learning environment in a school. The Director's role is explored through three threads, or behavioural dimensions: Relationship; Credibility; and, Resilience. Together these threads play significant functions in helping to establish a framework for the operation of the position. Through examples of change as implemented in Kadar's leadership role, the theme Agent of Change readily emerges. This work provides guidance, insight and support for teachers appointed to similar roles as it opens honest and meaningful ways of looking into what it means to be a change agent in a complex environment.
