The book evaluated the effect of ashed and unashed rice mill waste and oil-palm shafts (agro-wastes) on the physico-chemical properties of a degraded soil as well as determined the growth response of Corchorous olitorius to the applied wastes. This was with a view to determining the most efficient agro-waste type for optimizing the yield of Corchorous olitorius under incubated soils in the screenhouse. Produktbeschreibung
The experimental set-up was a completely randomized design consisting of five and ten weeks incubated soils amended with ashed palm shaft (PSA), ashed rice straw (RSA), unashed palm shaft (PSU) and unashed rice straw (RSU) applied at 0, 5 and 10 t/ha. The treatments were replicated three times. Twenty-seven pots were incubated for five weeks while another twenty-seven pots were incubated for ten weeks, giving a total of fifty-four pots each containing three kilogram of surface soil for the study. At the end of both incubation periods, four seeds of C. olitorius were planted and thinned to two stands per pot at two weeks after planting. Data on growth parameters such as plant height, number of leaves, leaf area and stem girth were recorded till 12 weeks after planting (WAP).
