This piece of work analysed the Airports fire brigade and fire section in Namibia with specific emphasis on the effectiveness in search and rescue services. Grootfontein airbase and Eros airport fire brigade were purposively selected for a comparative study between the military and civilian run airport fire brigade. As per International Civil Aviation Organisation requirements (ICAO, annex 12, 2004) states that all airports are required to establish an effective fire fighting unit that provides search and rescue services as part of safety standards set by ICAO. The aim is to justify, support and contradict the findings in line with identified review. The recommendation will specifically aim at helping GFN airbase SAR unit and Eros airport SAR unit through providing guidance and methods that the airport can focus if the effectiveness in search and rescue services as per ICAO standards and requirement is to be achieved.
