Albinistic traits can vary and individuals are usually classified as true albino, partial albino, or leucistic. Albino animals demonstrate both positive and negative responses to their albinistic characteristics.

Hayley McCardle was born in Garland, Texas the daughter of John and Mary McCardle. In 2006, she graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife and Fisheries. In 2012, she completed her Master of Science degree in Wildlife Ecology at Texas State University-San Marcos.
