The high magnitude of the public health negative effects associated with alcohol consumption in Russia is well-known. However, there is a gap in understanding of the economic consequences of such intake. The aim of the present study is to reveal the influence of alcohol consumption on labor productivity and income level of Russian working age adults in order to assess the direct economic impact of alcohol beverages that should be added to the indirect economic effects of mortality and morbidity. The author thanks the Russian Longitudinal Monitoring Survey, Phase 2, for making source data available, and his colleagues and teachers for great input into this publication.
