It is estimated that there are around seven hundred and forty thousand people who consume alcohol to excess and five hundred thousand who are dependent on alcoholic beverages (WHO, 2005). Understanding the factors that may contribute to alcohol consumption is an important area of research. Psychological factors include personality and emotional regulation. A better understanding of the relationship between Emotional Regulation difficulties and Personality traits in alcohol consumption could be useful for intervening to prevent and change this behavior.
