Alcoholism, in one form or another is a universal phenomenon. Whether one likes or not it persists in almost all cultures. Problems of alcoholism have been highlighted time and again by the media-the print, electronic and even folk media, nevertheless it continues cause misery and social turmoil. From the research point of view, much of the knowledge and data have confined to alcoholism in urban areas whereas in villages even though it is rampant not much is known. Keeping this gap in our knowledge of the phenomenon of alcoholism, the present study was undertaken.
