Pistone started his career at Solbiatese and Crevalcore, two small Italian teams who in recent years have slid to the lowest tier of professional Italian football, before moving to Vicenza for the duration of the 1995 96 season. He transferred to Internazionale for season 1996 97. After an impressive season at Internazionale, Newcastle United manager Kenny Dalglish snapped Pistone up for Pds. 4.5 million in July 1997.
