Diabetes is a metabolic syndrome characterized by hyperglycemia, hyper cholesterolemia and hyper triglyceridemia. Hence, there is a need to search the anti diabetic drugs which apart from lowering the blood glucose levels can also modify the atherogenic lipid profile without producing many side effects. An attempt has been made in the present study to evaluate the comparative property of Aloe vera gel and Fenugreek seeds and also along with the hypoglycemic drug name glibenclamide for 21 days. In the Aloe vera, Fenugreek and glibenclamide treated groups they showed a significant decrease in the levels of blood glucose and Glycosylated haemoglobin in our study. Also there was significant decrease in serum levels of triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (TC) , low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and a concomitant increase in high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C) in Aloe vera, Fenu Greek and Glibenclamide treated groups. Fenugreek treated groups showed a significant decrease in TC, TG, LDL, and VLDL when compared to Aloe vera treated group. The significant decrease in diabetic index in Aloe vera and Fenugreek treated group shows its protection against diabetes mellitus.
