Detailed guidance is provided on selection of patients suitable for alveolar distraction, including those with cleft lip and palate, skeletal class II malocclusions and cystic lesions involving the alveolus. All aspects of treatment using the ArchWise distraction appliance are then covered, including technical preparation, surgical set-up and osteotomies, docking site surgery, orthodontic finishing, implant placement and prosthetic restorations. Relevant information is also included on the principles of distraction osteogenesis and bone histology and quality after the procedure. The book concludes with helpful case presentations covering different scenarios in which ArchWise distraction of alveolar bone is appropriate.
Autorenporträt
Nejat Erverdi graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Dentistry in 1981. He started his postgraduate education at the Department of Orthodontics of the same faculty and completed his PhD in 1985. In 1987, Dr. Erverdi joined Marmara University Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Orthodontics, as a lecturer, becoming Assistant Professor in 1988 and Associate Professor in 1989. In 1994 he was appointed as a full Professor. Dr. Erverdi served as Head of the Department of Orthodontics between 1988 and 2006. He is one of the founding members of the Turkish Orthodontic Society and has served as a Council Member of the European Orthodontic Society since 2000. Dr. Erverdi is on the editorial board of the Turkish and Greek Orthodontic Journals and Ortho Journal. In 2002 he became a full member of the North Atlantic Component of the Edward Angle Society. Dr. Erverdi is the author of more than 100 articles in national and international journals. He was President of the IXth International Symposium on Dentofacial Development and Function in October 2002. He served as President of the Turkish Orthodontic Society from 2004 to 2006 and in 2006 was elected President of the European Orthodontic Society for the year 2011. Dr. Erverdi has been a Visiting Professor at the University of Connecticut, USA, since January 2007. Melih Motro graduated from the University of Marmara (Istanbul, Turkey), Faculty of Dentistry, in 2005. In 2011 he was awarded his PhD from the Department of Orthodontics at the university, where he continues to work. Dr. Motro is currently conducting research in a number of areas, including the long-term effects of orthognathic surgery on soft tissues, comparison of the effects of different rapid maxillary expansion devices, and segmental distraction osteogenesis in cleft lip and palate patients with the ArchWise distraction appliance. He has published papers in national and international journals and has delivered a number of presentations bothwithin Turkey and overseas.
