His Holiness Jigme Phuntsok (1933-2004) was a prominent teacher in the Nyingma tradition of Tibetan Buddhism who was recognized as a terton and renowned for his mastery of Dzokchen and his visionary activities, including the establishment of the nonsectarian Buddhist community of Larung Gar, one of the largest monastic settlements in the world and a vibrant Buddhist teaching center that has contributed enormously to the resurgence of Buddhism in Tibet and China. Khenpo Sodargye was born in Tibet in 1962. He spent his early years herding yaks, and after attending Garzé Normal School entered Larung Gar Buddhist Institute in Sêrtar, becoming a monk in 1985 under the great Jigme Phuntsok Rinpoché. Khenpo served Rinpoché as his personal and teaching interpreter on overseas tours in Asia, Europe, and North America as well as at Larung Gar, where he is now abbot. He has taught and translated the Dharma for over thirty years and has lectured on Buddhism and social issues in over a hundred universities around the world. His books in Chinese have sold hundreds of thousands of copies.
