Alyssia is a sensitive little girl who loves magic. In this story, Alyssia becomes angry and overwhelmed following a disagreement with the younger children over the game she is playing. Her Mummy teaches her how to use grounding techniques to calm her mind and body, reducing her anger and overwhelm. They also go on a mindful nature hunt in the woods where she learns all about the magic of nature. My hope is that the story encourages your little ones to get outside and experience the calming benefits of nature first hand, as well as equipping them with grounding techniques they can use to calm their mind and body even when they can't get outdoors. One of the easiest ways to help calm anxiety and overwhelm (in both children and adults) is by spending time in nature. Studies have shown that children who play outside are happier, more attentive, better able to concentrate, and less stressed and anxious than those who spend more time indoors. A mindful nature hunt can be an excellent way to get outdoors and experience the calming benefits of nature whilst encouraging children to focus their attention on the present moment. The grounding exercises described in the story are also a great way for both adults and children to bring themselves back to the present moment when they are feeling overwhelmed. There are lots of free activities for children to complete at the end of the book, including a free nature hunt activity sheet!
