In addition, people with metabolic syndrome have a fivefold greater risk of developing type-2 diabetes. [2] Type-2 diabetes, which accounts for 90% of all diabetes, has become one of the major causes of premature illness and death, mainly through the increased risk of CVD which is responsible for up to 80% of deaths.
