Dean Smith was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. He is a 1989 graduate of the MFA program at Columbia University. His poems have appeared in numerous publications, including Poetry East, Open City, and Gulf Stream. His baseball writing has been published in Mudville Diaries, by Avon Books. He is the author of "Never Easy, Never Pretty: A Fan, A City, A Championship Season," about the Baltimore Ravens' Super Bowl XLVII championship season, and most recently, "Baltimore Sons" (poems). He has also written film essays and reviews for the Independent Film Channel and IndieWire magazine, an e-zine dedicated to independent film. Born and raised in Baltimore, MD. and a long-time resident of Washington, DC. he lives in North Carolina.
