Autorenporträt
Hayden is the Poet Laureate and a Tenured Full Professor (Humanities, Philosophy, and Religions) for Sinclair College in Dayton, Ohio. With a Master's degree in Comparative Religions, a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy and Psychology, a Yoga/Meditation teaching certification, and a well-worn passport and backpack, her writing casts a wide net to many diverse subjects. She received the SOCHE Award (2017), Interfaith Core Curriculum Award (2019), Humanities Professor of the Year Award (2020) and League for Innovation Teaching Excellence Award (2020). Her eco-chapter, Saunter Like Muir was recently published in Eco pedagogies: Practical Approaches to Experiential Learning (Routledge, 2022). Dozens of her poems have been published in a variety of literary forms, both online and print anthology. She started recording her thoughts and observations when given a journal at 5-years-old and never stopped. Through poetry, she can stretch beyond boundaries, get to the spaces in between, make connections in stillness and in motion, tangle with contradictions, tap into what it is to breathe, live, and engage fully in this life. Nature, travel, parenthood, religion, and spirituality are among the many subjects which inform her creative work. She recently co-led a study abroad trip to Ireland and is currently working on her second collection, inspired by several European travels. However, her number one role is being Mom. She lives with her family and animal rescue menagerie on a little windy, green farm. You can read more about these sweet rescues, including blind and three-legged Vinny Valentine, in Windy Chicken Farm Animal Rescue.
