Bioactive compounds are primarily found in fruits and vegetables including mushrooms. Studies to exploit wild mushrooms as a source of biologically active compounds are gaining importance in the recent years. Both edible and inedible mushrooms are endowed with diverse nutritional and nutraceutical compounds. This textbook evaluate the bioactive compounds of some wild edible and inedible mushrooms using gas chromatography mass spectrometer (GCMS) with the view to identifying the important volatile constituents. Several bioactive compounds were identified and documented including the GCMS chromatogram of methanolic extracts of the mushrooms and the chemical structure of the identified compounds. The identified compound reportedly shows diverse bioactive activities and these are well documented. This text also includes the amino acid profile of these wild edible and inedible mushrooms and the reported medicinal importance of the identified amino acids.
