The increase in electric power demand in urban areas produces searches on new means to transmit huge electric power. One of these means is using the fluids for cooling inside or outside the power cables. The proposed cooling method in this work depends on the use of the oil as insulation layer between the conductor and XLPE, at the same time the oil is pumped to flow inside the cable and dissipate the bigger part of the losses as a heat. The study and analysis has been completed by simulating the HVAC and HVDC power cable using computer program written by MATLAB 7.6/M-file. The FDM has been used to compute the temperature distribution in power cable. The study has involved the effect of temperature increasing with distance, on the cable losses, electrical stress distribution in HVAC and HVDC, and charging current in HVAC power cable. The proposed method is compared with two other cooling methods, which are Internally Oil Cooling Method and Integrally Oil Cooling Method. The studygives reduction in charging current for HVAC power cable and changes the electric stress distribution for HVDC cables.
