This study explores the possibility of accounting practices in Mauritian households. Four areas of household accounting practices (budgeting, record keeping, decision-making and long term financial planning) are discussed along with their benefits and factors motivating and influencing their use.

Poornima Bissoon is an associate executive in the Fund Accounting Unit at one of the leading offshore management companies in Mauritius. She has obtained First Class Honours in B.Sc. (Hons) Accounting with Finance from the University of Mauritius (2009). She is currently completing her ACCA courses.
