This book provides a comprehensive view of cyber operations, analysis and targeting, including operational examples viewed through a lens of conceptual models available in current technical and policy literature. Readers will gain a better understanding of how the current cyber environment developed, as well as how to describe it for future defense. The author describes cyber analysis first as a conceptual model, based on well-known operations that span from media to suspected critical infrastructure threats. He then treats the topic as an analytical problem, approached through subject matter interviews, case studies and modeled examples that provide the reader with a framework for the problem, developing metrics and proposing realistic courses of action.

Provides first book to offer comprehensive coverage of cyber operations, analysis and targeting;Pulls together the various threads that make up current cyber issues, including information operations to confidentiality, integrity and availability attacks;Uses a graphical, model based, approach to describe as a coherent whole the development of cyber operations policy and leverage frameworks;Provides a method for contextualizing and understanding cyber operations.

Autorenporträt
Dr. Jerry M. Couretas, a Lead Associate for Booz Allen Hamilton, currently manages the Cyber Mission Modeling project for the U.S. Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD). Dr. Couretas published "An Introduction to Cyber Modeling and Simulation" with Wiley in 2018, which included contemporary insights garnered from leading the OSD's Cyber Modeling and Simulation Technical Working Group from 2013 to 2015. Dr. Couretas is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Defense Modeling and Simulation (JDMS), producing over 20 special issues on subjects of national security importance. Dr. Couretas also served on the North Atlantic Treaty Organization's (NATO) Modeling and Simulation Group 117 (NMSG 117), cyber modeling and simulation (M&S) for network defense. This is in addition to work on The Technical Cooperation Program's (TTCP) Action Area 18 (AA 18), cyber M&S, which included the development of a layered M&S architecture, based on cyber analytics, for enterprise risk mitigation.Dr. Couretas' cyber M&S work leverages a generalized threat life cycle that he developed as Technical Director of Lockheed Martin's Counter Improvised Explosive Device (IED) Task Force. As Technical Director of the C-IED Task Force, Dr. Couretas evaluated technology and training solutions across the lifecycle of an IED, guiding Corporate investments with the goal of rapid fielding of IED defeating capability. Dr. Couretas' PhD is in Electrical and Computer Engineering, from the University of Arizona, with a focus on Artificial Intelligence and Simulation. In addition, Dr. Couretas was a test engineer on the Ford Villager / Nissan Quest after graduating Magna Cum Laude from Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Michigan.
