China is a major contributor to and is a major victim of global climate change. By current estimates, China is now believed to be the world's largest national emitter of Greenhouse Gas (GHG), and is only expected to increase its emissions. The economy has grown impressively, but the environment has degraded greatly as a result of its prodigious growth and subsequent energy choices. The duality of the issue causes climate policy to shift often between domestic and international contexts. Because the problem of climate change affects all people, I think it is vital to consider and understand the roles played by this country. To what extent China is able to implement its national sustainable development strategy is an issue of perennial great concern in tackling climate change. Therefore, acknowledging China's achievements to date and having a better understanding of the domestic policy decisions which are made on climate change is crucial to understanding China's development in international climate change cooperation.
