Pain is a complex, subjective and multidimensional phenomenon that generates a response including verbal expressions. Childbirth is one of the major events in a woman's life and the pain that accompanies it is experienced as one of the most painful. The fight against pain must be a priority in the practice of health professionals. In obstetrics, non-pharmacological and pharmacological methods have been introduced for the management of labor and delivery pain; all strategies and recommendations have been established to improve analgesic efficacy while limiting the repercussions on the progress of labor and delivery as well as maternal and neonatal effects. The use of locoregional analgesia (LRA), in particular epidural, for childbirth is the gold standard, and numerous studies have objectively demonstrated high acceptability and maternal satisfaction.
