Pure and contaminated free water is necessary to maintain good health but unfortunately the availability of pure and microbe free drinking water is hard to find in many developing countries. Microbial contaminated water is a great menace to various life forms including humans. Microbes, especially coliforms are responsible for causing many diseases in humans. There are many techniques used to determine the purity of water but in our present study we used the IMViC and the MPN tests to analyze the samples. The samples were collected from various sources in and around Visakhapatnam, India. The samples were collected from various eateries and water supplied by local agencies. Results showed that most of the samples provided by theses eateries were contaminated. This may be attributed to inadequate water disinfection treatments and also to the absence of sanitary aspects.
