Many people think that literary features are reflected only in fiction, poetry, drama and the like. They also protest against studying the Bible through a literary approach because it is sacred. But it is possible to apply a textual approach in studying the Bible because it represents one of the greatest pieces of literature of the world. The Bible contains almost all forms of literature like poetry, history, tales, collection of proverbs, letters and others. The Bible contains interesting books, which are characterized by literary features that inspired for the development of modern fiction, drama and so on. So it has literary significance that the researcher analyzed one of the elements of literature, conflict, in the Book of Esther, one of the books in the Old Testament. The analysis of conflict in this book conveys a message for those who overlook the fact that the Bible is a piece of literature. This study also helps to show how significant conflict is in understanding the essence of this story and to serve as a source for others who might be interested in doing further research on the Bible as literature.
