Environmental deterioration is one of the greatest threats to our planet. However, the population does not consider that their actions are contributing to the destruction of nature, despite the existence of regulations, programs and projects. The present research aims to analyze the relationship between education, household consumption and environmental deterioration in Ecuador during the period 2000-2020. The approach of the study is descriptive because it details the policies, programs and projects that Ecuador has adopted to improve the quality of the environment. Under this purpose, it was estimated through an Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) model. The results indicate that education expenditure and household consumption have a direct effect on environmental deterioration, while years of schooling have an inverse relationship. Indeed, there are multiple determinants of the destruction of nature; however, the estimated model contributes to environmental and social policies aimed at counteracting environmental problems.
