The Productive Safety Net Programme (PSNP) is the components of the Food Security Strategy (FSS). The PSNP has been started nationwide in 2005 targeting about eight million chronically food insecure peoples. Although the program started in highlands of the country earlier, the Government of Ethiopia (GoE) and partner donors have agreed that the pastoralist areas should be treated differently due to uniqueness of their livelihood. This work is original research done by the Authors in Somali region of Ethiopia. The research work was designed to provide comprehensive, independent and reliable information on social safety net program in pastoral areas. It is believed that lessons drawn from the inform policy makers and help them to decide on advancing the programme to achieve food security.
