This report deals with the diagnosis of the influence of urban growth in the area of the former Kwacena market in Tete City and the environmental impacts that this growth has on the water resources of the Nhartanda aquifer system. In view of this situation, monitoring of physical and chemical parameters was carried out to assess the quality of the groundwater in the Nhartanda aquifer system. The analyses revealed that the rapid growth of the urban sprawl has compromised the quantity and quality of water in the valley through anthropogenic activities carried out on the site, such as: urban allotments, removal of natural vegetation, agriculture using fertilizers in high concentrations, and the dumping of solid waste in or near watercourses.
