This piece of work was written with a view to ensuring proper trade promotion policies that take into account environmental protection. This is as a result that there is no single multilateral policy that protects the environment. Environment protection largely depends on fragmented legal documents hence environment protection is mainly achieved through trade protection policies for sustainable development in the whole world. Article XX of General Agreement on Trade and Tariffs (GATT 1994) stand to provide an interim relief to the problem of environment protection whilst it leaves WTO members with a task to look at environmental protection more seriously. At the end of the document, I make some recommendations to amend GATT Article XX to include environment protection provisions. Another suggestion is to enact an Environment Agreement. There is also a possibility of incorporation Multilateral Environmental Agreements into the GATT 1994.It is also suggested that that enacting an Agreement on Production Processing Methods (PPMs) would also help conserve the environment. The long and lasting solution would be to continue with the Doha Round on Environmental negotiations.
