In today's highly dynamic and rapidly changing environment, global competition among organizations has led to higher demands on the manufacturing organizations. With increased global competition, attention has been shifted from increasing efficiency by means of economies of scale and internal specialization to meeting market conditions in terms of flexibility, delivery adherence, manufacturing performance and quality assurance. In the highly competitive environment, to be successful and achieving world-class-manufacturing, organizations must possess both efficient maintenance practices and effective manufacturing strategies. Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) is an innovative approach to plant maintenance that is complementary with Total Quality Management (TQM), Just-in-Time Manufacturing (JIT), Total Employee Involvement (TEI), Continuous Performance Improvement (CPI) and other world-class strategies. TPM harnesses participation of all the employees to improve production equipment availability, performance, quality, reliability and safety. The present research work highlights the contributions of strategic TQM-TPM initiatives on manufacturing performance.
