This empirical study describes a multi-unit firm as it transitioned from a hierarchical structure to a multidimensional structure, all during a time of growth. The turbulent environment stimulated feedback from the co-researchers who provided information about how the firm must function in order to be successful. Many aspects of the multi-unit firm are analyzed and useful for instruction and further thought. While the data that emerges in the study is not completely generalizable, the transition that is studied revealed propositions that are transferrable to other organizations on a situational basis. I hope that you find this study interesting as you seek to understand how a multi-unit firm works. Many firms are challenged as they grow. This firm was challenged and succeeded in its quest for growth. I wish this same success for you.
