Barry Nager's passion for justice started as a law student through his study of jury independence. His work on fair application of justice began with article "The Jury the Tried William Penn" published by the American Bar Association and continued with his being granted access to represent cases in the Supreme Court. Now a retired from legal practice his passion continues with the writing "And Be Free", a history of how African Americans prevailed in their pursuit of civil rights and equal opportunity in military, political, and social arenas.
