Rezensionen
Description: With this second edition, the editors have solidified their position as having the preeminent textbook on male reproduction. Purpose: Although it has only been four years since the first edition was published, advances in genetics and the clinical applications of molecular biology for diagnosis and treatment of reproductive dysfunction, a new medication for the use of erectile dysfunction, and intracytoplasmic sperm injection for the treatment of male infertility warrant a new edition. Audience: Endocrinologists, reproductive endocrinologists, urologists, geneticists, internists, and physiologists will find this textbook to be a "must have" on their bookshelf. Assessment: Although comparable to Lipshultzs Infertility in the Male, 3rd Edition (Mosby, 1997), which is a classic for urologists, the book reviewed here comes out ahead in the editors'more comprehensive approach to all problems related to male reproduction. Features: Topics from physiology to psychology are covered in this extremely handsome volume, including molecular biology and religion and how they relate to the practice of treating male reproductive dysfunction. Although multiauthored, the lack of repetition and consistency of style make this book very easy to read. The illustrations are superb, from large, clearly labeled photomicrographs in color to patient illustrations that are not in other textbooks, to diagrams which illustrate the important concepts.
