Esau McCaulley is associate professor of New Testament at Wheaton College and the author of Reading While Black, How Far to the Promised Land, and Josey Johnson’s Hair and the Holy Spirit. He is a contributing opinion writer for The New York Times, and his writings have also appeared in The Atlantic, The Washington Post, and Christianity Today. When he’s not writing or teaching, you can find him playing a variety of sports in the back yard with his youngest son, Peter. Dad often loses.
