Dr. Eugene Elander won the Young Poets Award at 16 from the Dayton, Ohio Poets Guild for his poem The Vision. He was chosen Poet Laureate of Pownal, Vermont for his poem Pownal People, and was a leading contender for the post of Poet Laureate of Rochester, New Hampshire. His three new verses titled America the Beautiful: September 11, 2001, memorializing the terrorist tragedy, have been widely acclaimed and were read into the Congressional Record by then-Connecticut U.S. Senator Chris Dodd. Dr. Elander has authored four volumes of poetry: The Right Click, The World Click, Journeyings, and Philosophy over Fika (two of which were co-authored with his wife Birgit) -- as well as two published novels: The Goat of God, and Turning the Tides, available via Signalman Press. A self-help book titled Empowerment: Taking Charge of your Life has just been completed and published via Amazon KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing). In Summer, 2016, Dr. Elander completed his magnum opus, My Many Miracles: A Spiritual Journey, which is expected to be published in the near future. Dr. Elander is a freelance columnist who published a newspaper for ten years in New London, CT. He is an economist and college lecturer, and has been an agency executive director, emergency management consultant, investigator; and former animal control officer, deputy code enforcement and health officer for Farmington, New Hampshire. He continues to both teach and tutor on-ground and on-line economics and business courses He and his wife Birgit divide their time between Long Beach, California, USA and her homeland, Gotland, Sweden. They have also traveled extensively throughout North America and Europe. The Elanders have children and grandchildren whom they visit regularly in Georgia, Minneapolis, Long Beach; and in Gotland. Several other books by Dr. Elander are underway, including Animal Tales, based on his experiences as animal abuse investigator in Vermont and as an animal control officer in New Hampshire; and a public version of his doctoral dissertation on Cooperatism, a new economic system he designed which includes all stakeholders in crucial decision making. Dr. Elander is an original member of the Stonepile Writers group in North Georgia, affiliated with North Georgia University, which has anthologized a number of his poems; and a former member of the Poetry Society of New Hampshire. He is president of Elander Press and Elander Enterprises, both consulting firms for publishers, editors, writers, as well as providing management/marketing advice to firms & agencies.
