Early in my career, I worked for a newspaper as a commercial artist. Each year I would create a full broadsheet page as a Christmas greeting for our readers. It was a huge undertaking, usually starting in the summer months. Some years I would draw caricatures of the entire staff, and develop a story around the art. Readers loved these pages, calling my employer or stopping me while doing my weekly shopping to pay a compliment. It was a great way to poke fun and have fun. My children especially loved these pages but wanted something that was just for them. The seeds of my stories began all those years ago, as I entertained them with tales in the back yard while having a watermelon seed spitting contests, on long road trips in the car and certainly every night at bedtime. And now, the tradition continues for my beautiful grandchildren and for all young ones who love a story just about anytime.
