This first of a two-volume work in the Annals series devoted to developmental psychology deals with the foundations of developmental theory and methodology in four sections: theoretcial problems in developmental psychology, relations between method and theory in development research--a partial-isomorphism view, the structure of developmental theory, and the concept of development in individual and social change. (The second volume--to appear as volume 8 of the Annals--will address theoretical issues in developmental psychology.)
