Karen White Porter M.Ed. NBCT is an educator, author, and artist. She believes emotional intelligence is important for children's learning and development. Her students in Scotland, China, Bolivia, and the USA have inspired her to write about emotion. She writes the Emotatude book series to help children deal with feelings in concrete terms. Having been trained in Nonviolent communication she decided she wanted to explore the emotion behind conflict. Her recent 'I Feel ? When ?' series presents challenging scenarios children face and resolves conflicts with characters who cope with feelings and use words to solve problems. This series springs from the Emotional Mandala book where Karen artistically represented different emotions. As an illustrator and writer, she enjoys exploring feelings through art. She has exhibited her paintings of emotion such as fear, love, joy, grief, compassion, frustration, and anger in Art shows and includes these works in her Emotatude series.
